A man who loved the beautiful and the good, who only wanted to serve art – to the glory of God and for the joy and consolation of people – such a man was forced, in order to be able to live, into the only acquisition available to him, namely that of taking money from people as a tax collector instead of being of use to them, a foreign body among colleagues who were only devoted to bodily pleasures – such a man could only feel his early retirement, although as a councillor, as a liberation from lifelong servitude.
This found expression in the present symphony. In its introduction, all misery comes to an end at a stroke and the prospect of a happy future opens up. The Allegro vivace therefore storms into a new life, all previously bound forces are released, and at its end fanfares proclaim victory, liberation.

The songlike Andante with its leisurely contemplation evokes a dream of future undisturbed happiness.
The joy of this is expressed in the lively Scherzo, which is prone to jokes. Its trio announces satisfaction at the redemption that has been won.
In the finale, the new existence has been achieved, will, mind and spirit have become one, they have found their goal in art, and the heartbeat of life, released, pulses with a previously unprecedented strength and lightness towards a hopeful future.
The work, which was premiered in Slovakia and the audience demanded a repeat performance, is not only an expression of personal experience, it can also serve many people as a symbol of liberation from oppressive circumstances.
